The Season for Giving

Put up the tree, wrap the presents, book a pantomime, buy a new party outfit, order the Turkey / Nutroast...... just a few of the things that will be on peoples to do list this Christmas. But with Christmas around the corner, the sad reality is that not everyone's list will look like this.

With the cost of living at an all time high, energy prices through the roof, inflation pushing up the cost of food and services, all the while the National minimum wage / National living wage fails to reflect these increases....... All of this coupled with a pandemic, are just some of the situations that have pushed an increasing number of households into poverty.

Figures released by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), show a third of children are living in poverty in parts of Cheshire.

Around 34,893 children in Cheshire were living below the breadline in March 2019, even before the cost of housing was taken into account.

The number has been rising year on year, and is up from 29,018 in 2015.

Warrington Food Bank is part of the Trussell Trust's network of 428 foodbanks, working to tackle poverty and hunger in local communities. In 2020/21, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 2,537,198 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis.
