What is Down syndrome?
Down syndrome (or Trisomy 21) is when you're born with an extra chromosome.
What it's like to have Downs syndrome?
People with Down syndrome have varied abilities, But, like everyone, people with Down syndrome have:
- their own personalities
- things they like and dislike
- things that make them who they are
People with Down Syndrome have an inherent Right to be accepted and included as valued and equal members of the community.
World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), 21 March, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.
The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
